10,500 people in the UK have ataxia which is a progressive neurological condition that disrupts the messages sent from our brains to our muscles that are used to move, speak, listen and see. Ataxia UK funds research into finding treatments and a cure and provide support until they are found.

Story

As some of you know, Mr Fong, known by many from the Chinese takeaway/chippy in Abergele as Ken or simply Mr Fong, but by me and my brothers as Dad, Gung Gung by my boys, Big Brother by my uncle, Bac by my cousins and legend to us all, passed away quietly on 19th June 2024 from a cardiac arrhythmia and other underlying health conditions.

Dad was an incredibly strong, caring and resilient man, who could be so proud of all he achieved. To come from a poor farming family, having lost his own parents when he was 4/5 and being raised by his gran, to emigrating across the world to have a better life, get his own business, house, family and put us all through university and watch his two grandchildren grow, made him a hero in my eyes. He was such a brilliant role model and made me the person I am and strive to be.

If you would like to make a contribution towards his memory, we'll gratefully accept donations for Ataxia UK - he dedicated his early retired life to caring for my Mum, who had ataxia until she passed, and then watched his children to start symptoms with this condition too. I know he felt guilty about us having it but hopefully these contributions will help in some way and to raise awareness and find a cure.
