🏃‍♀️ Why I’m Running

I was lucky enough (or unlucky, depending how you look at it!) to secure a ballot place in the 2026 London Marathon. I’m running to raise vital funds for Purple Heart Wishes, a small and very worthy charity.

💜 Why Purple Heart Wishes?

Life is precious, and as time passes, it’s the memories we hold onto that become our greatest treasures, especially after losing someone we love.

Purple Heart Wishes is a remarkable charity that grants wishes to terminally ill adults, helping families create moments of joy and connection during incredibly difficult times.

Their work became deeply personal to me in 2025.

🌈 Darren’s Story

My friend Darren passed away in August 2025 from an aggressive glioblastoma that rapidly stole so much from him and his family, including his independence.

One of his final wishes was to see a play in London with his family. As his condition worsened, making this trip possible felt impossible:

• He was wheelchair bound

• Public transport and their family car were no longer suitable

• Specialist transportation was urgently needed and unaffordable

Most wish granting charities focus on children, and finding support within a short timeframe felt overwhelming.

Then Darren’s wife found Purple Heart Wishes.

They stepped in with incredible kindness, arranging the accessible transport that made his wish possible. That special day, one filled with love, joy, and memory-making would not have happened without them. His family were profoundly grateful for the compassion they received.

💫 Paying Kindness Forward

In Darren’s memory, and to honour the support his family received, I will be running the 2026 London Marathon to raise money for Purple Heart Wishes. Their work brings moments of joy to people whose lives are filled with treatments, uncertainty, and incredibly tough days.
