Hi everyone,

Last year, we lost our amazing dad after he was cared for at St Bede’s Unit in Gateshead Hospital. In his memory, we’re taking on the Great North Run to raise funds for the incredible team who supported him—and all of us—during such a difficult time.

From the moment Dad arrived, the care he received was nothing short of extraordinary. The staff didn’t just look after him; they looked after our whole family with kindness, compassion, and understanding every step of the way.

During his 16 days at St Bede’s, they went above and beyond anything we could have imagined. They helped organise and host a wedding for Dad and Julie, giving them a beautiful, meaningful moment together that we will cherish forever. They made it possible for him to fulfil his final wishes with dignity, love, and even celebration in his final weeks.

Everything they did was given so generously, without charge, and with genuine care.

We can never fully repay what they gave us—but we hope to give something back so that other families can experience the same comfort and support during such important moments.
