Facing my fears for cats

Jeff Knott is raising money for Cats Protection

Hitting the heights

We share our lives with cats. They bring happiness to millions of us every day. Yet too many cats don’t get the care and kindness they deserve. At Cats Protection we stand up for every cat to make life better for cats and the people who care for them.

Story

I'm not entirely sure why I'm terrified of heights.

I've definitely got worse as I've got older. As a kid, I was a fearless adventurer, happily strutting along cliff top paths and scrambling up and down anything I could climb, but these days anything with an edge fills me with dread.

I've tried to face my fears, but lets just say things don't always go according to plan. Take my honeymoon in New York, for example – I boldly went up the Rockefeller Centre but refused to step outside. Or that time I crawled on all fours across a glass walkway at the Reichstag in Berlin. I might give it a shot, but let’s just say the results are… cringe-worthy.

So why am I doing it again?

Well, its because I'm hoping to raise money for a cause that's close to my heart - the wonderful work of Cats Protection, particularly across the Midlands and London regions.

Cats Protection help more cats than any other organisation and we want to help millions more. We are a dedicated community of passionate employees, volunteers, supporters and partners, working together to make life better for millions of cats and the people who care for them.

We are the voice of cats in society and we speak up for their protection.

We’re working towards a society where every cat is treated with kindness and respect.

Making a better life for cats, because life is better with cats.

To help this brilliant cause, I'm planning two challenges to face my fear of heights this summer.

Firstly, on 14 June, I'm planning to walk across the top of the 02 in London. Someone with a crippling fear of heights, walking across the roof of one of London's landmark buildings. What could possibly go wrong?!

The on 5 July, I'm aiming even higher, as I'll be strapped to the top of a plane and attempting to wing walk in the skies above Northamptonshire! Higher, faster, and scarier than I ever imagined. Who thought this was a good idea?!

Am I excited by these adrenaline fuelled challenges? Absolutely not. Not even slightly.

Am I at least looking forward to the chance to conquer my fears? Nope. I'm mostly bricking it.

But am I willing to lose all dignity (and possibly the contents of my stomach) for this brilliant cause? Damn right I am!

So if you are able to spare a few pounds to help cats across London and the Midlands, or if you’re just curious to see me face my ultimate fear, please do consider sponsoring me for these challenges.

Thank you so much for your support – together, we can make a life-changing difference for cats!
