Story
Back in 2012, I completed 10 marathons in 10 days for charity Brathay Trust. In the process, I raised more than £100,000 for the Ambleside-based charity which helps young people to fulfil their true potential. It was a truly thrilling experience.
Since then, I have been up to Ambleside on numerous occasions to meet with the charity and see the wonderful work they do. I continue to be amazed by the impact it has on young people’s lives.
Brathay’s mission is to inspire and empower young people from across the UK - by harnessing the magic of outdoor experiences with learning at its dedicated outdoor centre in the heart of the Lake District.
Brathay has been doing its great work for the past 78 years. Sadly, pressure on the public purse and the increase in the cost of living has seen many schools, youth groups, families, and other charities struggle to cover the costs of bringing young people on a residential course.
It is why the charity has just launched the Brathay Bursary, a programme designed to nurture and develop young leaders, enhance corporate social responsibility, and create lasting positive impacts on both the community and the business environment.
The Bursary will help subsidise the cost of a residential programme. It will ensure that every young person - regardless of their background - can experience outdoor residential courses, making adventure accessible to all.
Brathay actively reaches out to marginalized communities, ensuring that every voice is heard. From inner-city neighbourhoods to rural villages, the Bursary will open more doors. Research shows us that outdoor residentials build confidence, resilience and leadership, encourage teamwork, improve wellbeing and mental health and build skills for life.
Brathay has a bold five-year goal. It wants to raise sufficient funds for the Bursary to enable 5,000 young people to experience a transformative outdoor residential course over the next five years.
I would love you to consider a donation to the Brathay Bursary. Your support will be instrumental in providing young people with opportunities that can significantly alter their life trajectories and contribute to a brighter future for all.
A big thank you
