Story
I'll be crocheting every day in April to make as many blankets as I can for the residents at Emmaus. Not only will I be raising money but creating handmade keepsakes for residents to keep or sell in their shops. This is close to my heart as from my own experiences, I know how hard it is not to have your own possessions and things to call your own. I want to be able to provide some comfort for those going through vulnerable and testing times.
I will be using my own yarn stock so all money raised will go to Emmaus.
I would urge others to donate, raise money through their networks and join Ginger Nut in a sponsored activity in April 2025 or even just pop in to one of their wonderful shops across the country and buy some of their furniture.
About our fundraising-
New figures from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government today show that the number of households facing homelessness has exceeded (320,000) between 2023-2024, the highest on record. This is an 8% rise on last year and means that more than the population of Nottingham are now homeless in England according to Crisis.
Ginger Nut, our staff and learners , believe that people in this situation and whom are at risk of it deserve support , care and love which is why in April 2025 we will be raising funds for Emmaus Colchester
Emmaus Colchester provides a home and meaningful work for up to 31 people who have experienced homelessness and social exclusion. Their purpose-built community offers a comfortable home, while our shops, online store, house clearance business and warehouse, provide work and generate the funding to keep the community going.
Our staff and learners will be fundraising through a multiple of different activities and you can donate here or on their pages linked to this account.
Emmaus know that overcoming homelessness often means more than a roof over your head. That’s why they support people to work their way out of homelessness, providing meaningful work experience, training, tailored one-to-one support, as well as a stable home for as long as someone needs it.
