Jenny and Ross’ fundraiser for Princess Alice Hospice

London Landmarks Half Marathon 2024 · 7 April 2024 ·
We are running in memory of Eve Slade, Jenny's legend of a Nan, who sadly passed away in July 2022.
Eve was the life and soul of every party (yes, even at 82 years young!), always up for a laugh and any challenge that came her way!
However one day, out of nowhere, in June 2021, Eve suffered a stroke whilst at home on her own. As part of the many tests she went through in hospital, it was discovered that she also had Ovarian Cancer. What a blow that was, to what already was an immense recovery journey ahead.
But her journey didn't end here. Eve was a fighter through and through. "I'm Still Standing" she used to sing, and boy did she!
The next 9 months Eve spent relearning to walk, talk and eat, as well as going through gruelling multiple rounds of Chemotherapy followed by major surgery in Feb 2022. It was during this phase oof her recovery that Eve had asked Jenny to not just teach her how to walk, but she wanted to run! "lets learn how to run a marathon" she said....
Just as we all thought the darkness was over and Eve was getting back her strength and a hopeful return to normal life; she even had a party to celebrate the year anniversary of her stroke! Sadly we were then hit with devastating news. Out of nowhere, in July 2022 we heard that the cancer had returned. Not only was it back but Eve only had weeks to live. To say this was a shock, is an understatement.
It was a few days later that Eve expressed she would like to be looked after by a Hospice towards the end of her life, all those end of life plans suddenly had to be thought of, plans which we had all hoped would have been much further away.
We are so grateful that we chose Princess Alice Hospice, to help Eve and the family in those last few days we had together.
No one tells you what that looks or feels like, to see someone you love the most coming towards their final weeks or days, in such pain and discomfort. Its not something i would wish on anyone.
However, the support, the guidance and care that Eve and the family received from Princess Alice Hospice, was second to none and something we will be eternally grateful for.
So here we are now, promising to fulfill Eve's wish of attempting to learn and (hopefully) run half a marathon! to help raise money and try and give back to a service that helped us in the darkest of days.
Thank you for taking the time to click the link on this just giving page, if you are able to donate, any small amount, we would very very grateful. And it might just help us get to the finish line ;)
