Story
This November I'll be trekking 100km across the Indian Himalayas in the name of breast cancer awareness.
Founded by Kris Hallenga, Coppafeel are an amazing charity that focus on providing more education and awareness around breast cancer symptoms - specifically for younger people. Their mission empowers people to check, be checked and if needed, find and treat their breast cancers at the earliest stage - which means MUCH better outcomes and less invasive treatment.
In 2023, I was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer at 29 years old - an aggressive type of BC that doesn't respond to hormone therapy. Catching it early was paramount to a good outcome, and it's because of Coppafeel's message that I got a lump checked - and checked again when I wasn't taken seriously...
After a year's worth of treatment including surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy, I was given the all clear. This is all due to knowing my body and the signs to look out for - advocating for myself in a system where it's still deemed that you're 'too young' to get breast cancer.
There's no denying that the journey - and even reaching out to get checked - is very scary. But I owe CoppaFeel so much for educating me on the signs to look out for and giving me the confidence to go straight to a GP. Without that, my situation might be very different. Breast cancer can be very treatable if caught early.
