Each year, over 600 newborn infants need dedicated care in the Neonatal Ward at our hospitals. Our neonatal fund continues the exceptional work of our partner charity Scoo-B-Doo, who provide over 80% of the equipment used on the ward every day.

Story

Without this amazing charity, our family wouldn't have made it through the most challenging time in our lives.

On 18th February 2025 around 4am, our son Luca was taken in to NICU at GRH following a night of low blood sugar and low blood gas readings on the maternity ward. The nurses moved swiftly to get Luca breathing again. It was such a scary time for us but in time we understood that our son was kept alive because of having the best equipment possible on the ward. Items such as incubators, oxygen monitors, hot cots, endless supply of foot probes, electric breast pump machines and more importantly a place for Claire and I to sleep so we could be our boys 24/7, all thanks to this phenomenal charity.

The following day, our other son Otis was also admitted to NICU and placed in a hot cot as he couldn't keep his temperature up. This charity does the work the NHS can't keep up with, we are forever grateful that our twins were looked after so well and had access to this life saving equipment.

We spent four weeks in NICU with our boys. We never left their side. The charity also provides training for the nurses on how to support NICU parents. They allowed us space to ask questions, time to heal and the strength to keep showing up each day. We are eternally grateful and the only way I know how to make a difference is to keep the funds going to the charity so more parents can have the support we did.

There will be a group of runners raising money for this charity and will be running the Cheltenham Half Marathon dressed as the famous cartoon character Scooby - doo! A different challenge when running 13.2 miles!

Please donate whatever you can.

Thank you to everyone that supported us whilst we lived at GRH. It was a very difficult and uncertain time for Claire and I, Luca still remains under consultant care for his Chronic Lung Condition.

For those families that have been through NICU, you know its a special place and without it, our tiny humans wouldn't be given the best start possible to thrive as children and adults. NICU we are forever grateful to you, along with thousands of other families.
