My name is Jenna and I am a staff nurse at East Lancashire Hospice. I am completing a wing walk with some of my colleagues to raise vital funds for the hospice and the services that we provide (We must be crazy!)

Now if that’s not crazy enough, I have vowed that, should I reach my target, I will go up in the air for a second time, but this time they will be performing a loop the loop (more than once) with me on top of the plane!!

So here’s a little of history of me and the hospice. About 10 years ago I began volunteering on the inpatient unit. Meeting patients and their families, spending time with them and becoming part of their journey. I very quickly feel in love with the hospice and all the wonderful things that they do for their patients. During my time at the hospice, my beloved grandad needed to come in to the unit, where he received the best care that we, as a family, could have ever wished for. Soon after, he passed away peacefully with my grandma by his side. I knew there and then I had to give something back.

I spent the next 9 years training and dreaming that one day I will be able to return to the hospice and become part of this fantastic team. Well I did it!! I’m home and now I want to do everything possible in my power to support this amazing service and be able to continue giving the best care possible.

With just one third of our funding coming from funding, we rely on the generosity of our community to raise over 4.5 million pound each year, to ensure the continued running of our amazing service. So, however big my target may seem, it is a very small sum next to 4.5 million pound. Everyone deserves to receive the care and dignity that we can provide at the hospice.

My goal with some of the money that I raise, is to provide all of our patient’s rooms with Bluetooth speakers, so that families can connect to them and play meaningful music to their loved ones. Music can be so therapeutic and personal to each individual, evoking the most beautiful of memories. Whether it be a bit of Elvis, ABBA, classical or even a bit of disco. It plays such a vital role to our patients and can make a huge difference in giving a quality of life at the end of their journey. Every moment matters.

So here it is, this is the moment I ask you to dig deep, but most of all, please help me get the word around. Ask your bosses (don’t worry they can afford it!), your family, your friends. Spread the word!! Share on all social media!! Share my QR code!!

And if anything, it’ll be worth a few quid just to see me doing it all over again, but going upside down again + again + again + again
