If someone had told me a year ago that I’d willingly cycle over 200 miles from London to Paris, I’d have laughed (and sat down with another glass of wine). But here I am, gearing up for what promises to be the most challenging—and hopefully rewarding—experience of my life.

This September, my husband Sean, two friends, and I will be taking on the London to Paris cycle challenge, all in aid of Katharine House Hospice, a cause that’s very close to my heart.

Katharine House provided wonderful care to my grandfather Ray during his final days, making those precious moments more comfortable for him and our family. We’re forever grateful for the incredible work they do and I know so many in our community have experienced the same comfort, and this is my way of giving back to an organisation that truly makes a difference.

To take part in the challenge, we need to raise £7,000. It’s a big target, but every penny will go towards helping the hospice continue its vital work.

Now, I’m not exactly an avid cyclist. Let’s just say I’m more of a “enthusiastic amateur” than “Tour de France hopeful.” But I trained hard last year (you might remember I survived the London to Brighton for the British Heart Foundation!), and I’m determined to take it up a gear (literally) for this challenge.

Over three days, I’ll be cycling over 60 miles a day, through the English countryside before crossing the Channel and continuing to cycle through France, finally arriving at the Eiffel Tower. It’s going to be tough, but I know the thought of the incredible work Katharine House Hospice does will keep me going—along with a few chocolate bars and maybe the promise of a celebratory glass of wine in Paris!
