Run the Sydney Marathon for Alzheimer’s Research UK.

Story

Every 3 minutes dementia steals a life. Research is our only chance of changing the ending for people affected by dementia.

Last year I set out to complete the Manchester Marathon and swim, cycle and run up the three highest peaks in Wales, England and Scotland. With some amazing support from friends, family and colleagues I was able to raise over £1000 for Alzheimer’s Research UK.

This is a charity close to my heart since my younger years - seeing my Granny slowly drift out of herself with Alzheimer’s. It’s a disease that is as much physical as mental, and has a profound effect on the person, their loved ones and society as a whole.

Now I get to spend a day a week trying to make a difference at a local nursing home. It really is a rewarding part of my job and I couldn’t imagine the week without it.

Inspired by the staff at Bridge House of Twyford, in honour of the carers and families looking after loved ones up and down the country, and in memory of my Granny I am again looking to raise money for Alzheimer’s Research UK. It is the leading research charity looking for better diagnosis, treatments and a cure. Even in the relatively short time since Granny left us, treatment has come on strides, let’s help Alzheimer’s Research UK continue this trend.

In October 2025 Storm Amy put the last challenge of my 40th year on hold and I was not able to complete the 3rd peak. So this year, to celebrate 41 instead, I hope to reach the remaining summit of Ben Nevis. Having had a refreshing swim in Loch Leven, an exhilarating cycle along the last stretch of the West Highland Way, and reaching the top of the UK I will be spurred on by the hard work of the scientists at Alzheimer’s Research Uk.

I will warm up with an attempt at Olympic glory in Wenlock* and then a 42km jog down memory lane in Sydney, to make the challenge equal to the cause.

Please help me raise even more for this brilliant charity, which is the UK's leading dementia research charity. They exist for a cure.Your donation helps their scientists and researchers find new ways to diagnose dementia, develop new treatments and find a cure for dementia.

And please cross your fingers for better Scottish weather!
