Legs Misérables fundraising for MND Scotland

Great North Run 2024 · 8 September 2024 ·
I'm thrilled (and a bit terrified) to share that I’ll be taking part in the Great North Run, my first real attempt at a running event since cross country in high school! Convinced by my brother, Michael, and brother-in-law, Jonathan, we’ve formed Team Legs Misérables. After a successful Edinburgh Marathon relay, we're now gearing up to tackle the half marathon in Newcastle on September 8th, all in support of MND Scotland.
This cause is deeply personal. My husband, Colin, bravely battled an aggressive form of Motor Neurone Disease (MND) and sadly passed away on July 8, 2023, just 11 months after his diagnosis. The progression of his symptoms was relentless. He lost the use of his arms, the ability to walk, and eventually, his voice. Despite a feeding tube and a high-calorie diet, his body weakened and he succumbed to repeated infections. Colin's passing left a void not only in my life but in the lives of our children, Nancy (7) and Adam (nearly 2).
For those who knew Colin, you understand how cruel this disease was for a man who thrived on activity and projects. MND not only took my husband and best friend, but also denied our children the chance to grow up with their loving dad.
MND Scotland supported our family throughout Colin’s illness and after his death. They are the only Scottish charity providing care and support to those affected by MND while funding vital research to find a cure. By sponsoring Legs Misérables, you’ll be helping MND Scotland continue their essential work, offering practical, financial, and emotional support to families like ours.
We want a world without Motor Neurone Disease. Your support can help make this vision a reality.
We’re really hoping that with a few generous sponsorships, we'll find the motivation to ramp up our training over the next 5 weeks. Who knows, maybe we'll even finish the half marathon in one piece and injury-free! Aim high, right? #runningforcolinandacure
