Jen, Rowan and Ollie's Welsh 3000s in aid of Long Covid Support

Jennifer Thompson Chatburn is raising money for Long Covid Support

Welsh 3000s in 24 Hours · 21 June 2025

Our mission is to improve the futures of people with Long Covid by ensuring equitable access to high quality healthcare, employment rights and welfare services through peer support, health and work advocacy and research engagement.

Story

On June 21st myself and my two brothers will embark on the toughest of challenges, the Welsh 3000s, 15 peaks in 24 hours to raise awareness and support for Long Covid Support.

Our Aunty has been living with Long Covid since August 2022.

Long Covid refers to the prolonged, fluctuating symptoms that can follow Covid-19. More than 200 symptoms have been documented. These range from respiratory issues, neurological impacts and debilitating chronic fatigue. It can affect anyone regardless of their age, previous health and fitness levels.

Long Covid is life changing. Our Aunty Jo, who loves walking and the outdoors, now spends 75% of her days resting in bed.

The illness prevents many who are affected from speaking out, and they can often feel hidden. Long Covid Support is committed to changing this. Since 2020, they have provided a space for those with Long Covid and their carers to connect over their lived experiences. Growing from a Facebook support group, they now forge advocacy work in government and clinical spaces. Their mission is to fight for a future where Long Covid is fully recognised and understood, reduce the impact of Long Covid and improve the lives of all those affected.

Raising awareness for Long Covid by embarking on the Welsh 3000s is so important to us. We want to raise awareness, money, and show support to our Aunty through a highly demanding challenge centred around our love for nature and mountains, which my brothers, my Aunty, and I all share.

The Welsh 3000s

The Welsh 3000s is an extremely tough endurance walk that requires you to climb all 15 mountains in Wales that are over 3000 ft (914m)… in 24 hours, and without using any form of transport. We will have to climb over 15,000 feet (4,500m) over 31 miles (50km). And if we manage to keep charge in our phones, we should clock over 100,000 steps and have climbed over 1,500 flights of stairs… all in one day!

Putting this into perspective, it's akin to climbing halfway up Everest in just 24 hours.

Starting in the early hours of the morning, and in the dark, we will first climb Snowdon before navigating the rest of the peaks, across the Glyderau and the Carneddau range.
