Story
This is my Grandma Brenda Riley, she was one of the strongest women I know, survived cancer and was in remission for over 20 years, she was the best cook, had the best advice and was an avid ironer! haha! She was well known in our community and had many friends. Unfortunately when Covid hit in 2019 because of her underlying condition where she had half a lung removed she was considered high risk and so was told to Shield. So she went from being a very active 82 year old to having to sit in and see nobody apart from us at her garden gate. 😟
Unbeknown to her and us she had an underlying heart condition - ischemic heart disease, you would never have known this because she was fit and well, apart from her obvious breathing difficulties with her only having one and a half lungs, unfortunately as she was unable to be her usual active self and do her daily travels she quickly went downhill and she passed away suddenly and tragically at the age of 83. Following her passing we have looked into ischemic heart disease and people can live and long life with the condition if detected early enough and with some light regular exercise.
So this being said I decided that I would raise awareness of this heart condition and what better way to do this by practicing what you preach and exercising and taking on a healthy lifestyle. I have decided to take part in Tough Mudder 💪🏻 on Saturday 27th July, see more details of what this entails here https://toughmudder.co.uk/ and I will be linking up to our company fundraiser towards the British Heart Foundation for the year so if you would like to support me on my journey I would be grateful for any donation you can give no matter how big or small.
Coronary heart disease kills an estimated nine million people each year and in 2019 it was the world's single biggest killer. On average 1 in 6 deaths globally are caused by coronary heart disease.
Most people will be touched by heart disease in their lives and the British Heart Foundation are discovering new ways to fix, treat & save one of the most precious parts of us ❤️. Your support helps them discover more about the heart & what can be done to help save it.
