Story
After spending the first few years of my recovery focusing on my mental health, it’s been amazing to reconnect with my physical wellbeing over the past few months. I’ve really enjoyed training for this half marathon – not for any big goal, but because it feels good to feel fit and strong again.
I hadn’t planned to fundraise, but I’ve recently decided to use the opportunity to raise some money for the Soho Recovery Centre – a place doing incredibly important work for the recovery community in London.
The Soho Recovery Centre (SRC) is Central London’s only dedicated 12 Step space – a safe, welcoming place where members of fellowships like AA, NA, CA, CMA, AlAnon, OA and ABA can hold meetings. It’s not affiliated with AA or any specific fellowship, but it exists to support the recovery community by maintaining a stable space for meetings to take place.
That might not sound groundbreaking, but it’s vital. Many meeting venues in London are temporary, expensive, or unavailable during holiday periods – the very times when people often need connection the most. The SRC offers something rare: a permanent, central location that’s easy for newcomers to find and for fellowships to rely on.
This model has worked in cities across the world – from New York and LA to Sydney – and the SRC is doing the same in London. It’s a registered UK charity, supported entirely by meeting contributions, donations, and recurring subscriptions.
If you’re in a position to chip in – even just a few pounds – it will go directly toward helping maintain this space for those who need it most.
Thank you so much,
Jenny
