Charity Dance Day · 12 July 2025

Motor Neurone Disease moves fast. It takes away time, it takes away independence and it has no cure. Every day we support people affected by MND. We fund ground-breaking research. We campaign for better care. We’re here for everyone who needs us. Because with MND, every day matters.

Story

Colne Bank School of Dancing is holding a Charity Dance Day in aid of MND on Saturday 12th July at Broomgrove Infant School Wivenhoe, this event is open to anyone of any age that loves to dance.

It is with great sadness that my dearest childhood friend of over 50 years was eventually diagnosed with MND in November 2024 having started to have various symptoms a year earlier. She absolutely loved to dance and was always on the dance floor, it only seems fitting that this is the way we raise money for this incredible charity. Jenny Overton - Principal of Colne Bank School of Dancing

Katy can't wait to work with everyone in her Wicked workshop.

Our past events have raised over £45,000 for various charities, this year we will be raising much needed funds for the MND Association Colchester and NE Essex Group, half of the funds raised will be spent locally, the other half going to the national MND Association for research into this devastating disease. Motor neurone disease, known as MND gradually stops messages from the motor neurones reaching the muscles. This leads the muscles to weaken, stiffen and waste, which can affect how you walk, talk, eat, drink and breathe. Some people also get changes to their thinking and behaviour, but the disease affects everyone differently. Not all symptoms will affect everyone, or in the same order. Symptoms also progress at varying speeds, which makes the course of the disease difficult to predict, MND is life-shortening and there is no cure.

The local MND association will be there to support our event.

Many thanks to Broomgrove Infant and Junior Schools for allowing us to use the schools for this event.
