Story
Hi Everyone,
On 6th September, I’ll be setting off to climb Mount Kilimanjaro – the toughest physical challenge I’ve ever taken on. But my reason for doing it is far bigger than the mountain.
In November 2023, my sister went for a routine scan – something she almost postponed. That appointment changed everything. She was diagnosed with breast cancer, spent Christmas in hospital, had surgery on Boxing Day, and started radiotherapy on Valentine’s Day. It was a year of fear, hospital visits, and sleepless nights.
For months, I couldn’t even say the word “cancer” out loud. It felt too big, too frightening... but we were lucky, it was caught early. She’s still with us, and I’m so grateful. If you or someone you love is going through this right now, I am deeply, deeply sorry. I understand some of the fear, uncertainty, and exhaustion you may be feeling, and I wish you strength, comfort, and a speedy recovery.
This trek is my way of turning something painful into something that might help others. I’m raising money for Prevent Breast Cancer, funding the creation of the National Breast Imaging Academy in Greater Manchester, which will help detect cancer earlier, train more specialists, and save lives. As a proud adopted Mancunian (from Seoul, Korea), this means a lot to me both personally and for our community.
I’m not a professional hiker, but I’m training hard. This weekend I’ll climb Ben Nevis, the UK’s highest peak, as part of my preparation. and now with my visa approved and vaccinations done, it’s starting to feel very real only three weeks to go, and YES, I’m extremely nervous!
I’m climbing for my sister, for those fighting, for those we’ve lost.
If you can support in any way through a donation, sharing my story, or simply having a conversation about breast cancer, it could save a life.
Thank you for standing with me, For My Sister, For All of Us
Jenny 💗
