Story
In July 2026, we will be going for a lovely swim along the Aune Estuary in South Devon. This swim is to raise money for Level Water, a brilliant charity providing 1-to-1 swimming lessons for children with disabilities.Every £15 raised gives a child the chance to learn to swim.
Jenny's story:
I am taking on 50 exciting challenges to celebrate my 50th year. I have always loved outdoor swimming, particularly in the sea, so when a good friend told me about the Bantham Swoosh it sounded like exactly the adventure I needed to complete my year. I had a feeling that Gilly might be crazy enough to come with me, and we've decided to fundraise together.
I have family members who have benefited hugely from specialist disability-friendly swimming lessons, both as teachers and learners, so Level Water's work is very close to my heart. I would be delighted if any of my friends and family felt able to donate in lieu of a birthday card or present, or just to support this wonderful cause.
Gilly’s story
So, apart from apparently being crazy enough to accept random physical activity challenges (if you know nothing about swimming like me, this is apparently equivalent to running a marathon!), the beauty of this swim appealed to me. But more than that, I had only recently come across Level Water through tragic circumstances. A boy in Rotherham with disabilities sadly died when he entered open water with friends having not learned to swim. His parents now actively campaign for swimming lessons for everyone and through this awareness raising, we now provide specific swimming lessons in Rotherham supported by Level Water to ensure everyone can get the chance to learn to swim, with extra training for swimming teachers and even if that means individual lessons, which had been difficult to make feasible in our busy pools. I feel passionately that swimming should be something everyone should get the chance to do and enjoy and this charity helps that be a reality. Thank you for any donation you feel able to give for this worthy cause.
