Story
I've never been a runner, or anything remotely athletic. Really not my thing. But in March 2025 I went out for lunch with some of my favourite colleagues - sensible people, who really should have known better - and somehow afterwards five of us agreed that we'd sign up to run the Cambridge Half in 2026.
The others came to their senses long ago, but for some reason here I still am. Ten months of training and I'm probably the fittest I've ever been - which is still not very fit. If I survive this, I'm hanging up my running shoes the very next day.
Why Jimmy's?
I've worked for Jimmy's for over five years now and it's a cause close to my heart. I really believe in what we do, and I know that the money we are given is put to good use.
Within Jimmy's centres, residents can access support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Once residents are ready to move into Jimmy’s supported housing they keep in touch regularly with their individual support worker. This relationship often continues even after the individuals are ready to transition on from Jimmy’s housing.
Jimmy’s aim is to offer targeted, wraparound support to promote mental wellbeing and help our residents fulfil their goals. We use evidence-based support to improve our services and impact and to be a voice for change.
