Story

In January this year Phil’s Mum, Judy, died of cancer.

With only a year from diagnosis to death it was an extremely sad and difficult time for our family. During Judy’s illness the support from the hospice became essential to both Judy, and her husband Richard. On the day of her death, we were visited at home by one of the hospice nurses and I will never forget the space she was able to hold for us at such a difficult time.

With friends working in hospice’s, I know the struggles they face with funding. Macro pressures on the economy mean they are struggling to raise the funds required to continue providing this exceptional level of support.

As we walk a marathon in memory of Judy, any donation, however small is greatly appreciated.

The Hospice helps people to live their precious lives well. Our care has many forms – at home, in our outpatient Spring Centre or through specialised care in one of our Hospice beds - and is defined by each person's need. We rely on donations to raise the £6m we need each year to fund our free care. Your support is ever more important, as NHS funding covers less than 20% of our running costs.
