Great North Run 2023 · 10 September 2023 ·

Live Well with Cancer cares about helping people in North Tyneside to live life fully with and beyond a cancer diagnosis. Our focus is on empowering people through self-help, mutual support and signposting to local services. We are a community that delivers flexible workshops, exercise classes and support groups that help people improve their health and wellbeing.

Story

Jensen (10), Finlay (8) & Krista (4) are hopefully 🤞 running the Junior Great North Run on Saturday 9th September, for the amazing charity ‘Live Well With Cancer’.

I wanted them to do this run with me… when I booked it this was the plan… I could run round alongside them…. however sometimes life doesn’t go to plan does it… ❤️‍🩹

Instead, I will be in hospital following liver resection surgery the day before 🥺 Hopefully removing the cancer once and for all! 🙏

As a family we are going to try as hard as we can to make this work for the kids to still do their run (although if they don’t we will do another run on a different day after my op) and in the process, to hopefully raise as much money as we can for this amazing local cancer charity. 🩵

These kids have had to face things which most children don’t ever have to face… 💔seeing cancer in your parent as a grown adult, I know firsthand, is extremely difficult. But for these three they have had to cope with seeing me diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2020, a reoccurrence and further surgery in 2022 and now again another reoccurrence in 2023. They were just 7, 4 and 8 months when diagnosed. I try not to make it the centre of our world, and they don’t know all the details of course, but it’s not something at this age they should have to think about or worry about at all. 😔

When they’re older, I want them to remember us doing good, positive things as a direct reaction from what has happened to us as a family… for example me climbing Kilimanjaro just 2 years after my diagnosis, probably sticks in Kristas memory more than me being diagnosed as she was so young at the time. ⛰️ 💪 And now hopefully doing this run, and raising money for this charity, which supports people in our area with cancer will become a prominent memory too (rather than me being in hospital).

The services that this charity provides are honestly just invaluable. 🫶

So if you can help Jensen, Finlay & Krista reach their target, it would mean the world. (To them but also to me) 🙏

I know I have fundraised recently for other charities too, but you know what, the sad truth is cancer doesn’t wait, it doesn’t stop, and therefore neither does the fundraising. I hope if you can, you might donate for the kids- even something really small.

They have been so pleased to see the totals climbing and to hopefully reach their NEW goal…

We are blown away that we reached our initial goal of £300 in the first day, and then our second goal of £600 in 2 days!! Thank you so much! 🙏🏻 We have decided to up it, to a massive £1000 for Live Well With Cancer. We hope we can do it! 👏🏻

Thanks so so much for your continued support,

Emma, Kari, Jensen, Finlay & Krista
