In April, I'll be running the Zion 60km Ultramarathon to support Tip of the Spear Landmine Removal, an international nonprofit founded and led by a former teammate from 7th Special Forces Group, Ryan Hendrickson.

Ryan is a Silver Star and Purple Heart recipient and a former Green Beret with six deployments to Afghanistan and five to Latin America. In 2010, a pressure-plate IED in Afghanistan nearly took his life. He endured countless surgeries and two years of rehabilitation, only to return to the teams and deploy year after year. After Ryan left the military, he founded Tip of the Spear, a nonprofit that goes into heavily mined conflict zones to locate and remove explosive hazards, so that innocent civilians don't have to live in fear of their next step.

Since its founding in 2022, Tip of the Spear has conducted 13 missions into Eastern Ukraine, the most heavily mined county in the world. This year, Ryan's organization is looking to expand its operations to Burma and Nigeria. Long after wars end, landmines and unexploded ordnance continue to injure and kill indiscriminately.
