Story
In April, I'll be running the Zion 60km Ultramarathon to support Tip of the Spear Landmine Removal, an international nonprofit founded and led by a former teammate of mine from 7th Special Forces Group, Ryan Hendrickson.
Ryan is a Silver Star and Purple Heart recipient and a former Green Beret with eight deployments to Afghanistan and five to Latin America. In 2010, he stepped on a pressure-plate IED in Afghanistan that nearly took his life. After countless surgeries and two years of rehabilitation, Ryan returned to the teams and deployed year after year. In 2022, Ryan founded Tip of the Spear, a nonprofit that goes into heavily mined conflict zones to locate and remove explosives, so that innocent civilians don't have to live in fear of their next step.
Since its founding, Tip of the Spear has conducted 13 missions into Eastern Ukraine, the most heavily mined county in the world. This year, Ryan's organization is looking to expand its operations to Burma and Nigeria. Long after wars end, landmines and unexploded ordnance continue to injure and kill indiscriminately. Please consider donating to help support Ryan's mission to clear landmines and give civilians the freedom to walk safely again.
Your donation will directly support: (1) equipping local partners with critical landmine detection and removal equipment; (2) training local partners; and (3) conducting joint de-mining operations.
Tip of the Spear is a 501(c)(3) with a Platinum rating from GuideStar. The Wander Project is the fiscal sponsor that partners with the Zion Ultras for fundraising initiatives.
