Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On the 27th of April Sierra Leone celebrates its Independence Day from British rule. On that day I intend to complete a sponsored run to raise money for a small Shropshire charity supporting Sierra Leone of which I am a Trustee.
It seems that Shropshire is well connected to the West Africa county as on the 27th of April the Welshpool Llanfair Railway is holding a special event to celebrate Independence Day. The railway owns a complete train brought to Wales from the African nation in 1975 and will be running Sierra Leone carriages on the day and mounting displays to celebrate (wllr.org.uk).
Sierra Leone Foundations for Life Skills is a UK charity set up in 2014 with a special interest to help girls and young women. To this end it has built a vocational centre to offer training in catering and tailoring. Other completed projects include building a bakery, a well, houses for widows and material improvements to schools. There is more information on the website SFFLS.org.uk. Donations are required to pay for salaried jobs in Sierra Leone and materials.
Please sponsor me to run the length of the Welshpool Llanfair railway to express solidarity with the great people of Sierra Leone. I will also be visiting the railway to view the displays.
I will travel one way by train and then will be running back along footpaths and minor roads close to the line of the track, the run will be approximately 10.5 miles long.
