Story
On 1st October - Nicola and Jeremy Packer, Ryan Waite, Helen Shedden, Steve and Greg Carter, Annabel Heap, Clare Murrell and Tim Underwood will leap from a plane at a height of 15,000 ft somewhere above Salisbury in order to raise funds for a brilliant charity called Heartburn Cancer UK (more of which later).
From Jeremy - My wife, Nicola, was diagnosed with Oesophageal cancer in February 2021 and underwent 6 weeks of chemo and daily radiotherapy followed by a full oesophagetomy to remove her oesophagus and part of her stomach in August of that year. She has made an incredible recovery and the charity that supports her to this day is Heartburn Cancer UK. The facts remain that 1 in 2 of us will get cancer in our lifetime and with oesophageal cancer, as recently as 10 years ago, the survival rates were poor and the long term outcome post surgery were not great. Huge strides have been made to increase survival rates for all cancers and OC is included within this. HCUK's purpose is to raise awareness about the potential dangers of persistent heartburn, Reflux and Barretts. The earlier the diagnosis, the better the chances of a positive outcome and HCUK is working to ensure this key mesage is received by as many people as possible. Our merry band of brothers have had a huge impact on us as a family, they are primarily my Alton EDC Crossfit gang who have comforted and encouraged me during what was a difficult time, they have helped practically and trained Nicola to ensure she was robust enough to go through the wringer with treatment and we even have the Prof with us who engineered and oversaw all of Nicola’s treatment with his great team at University Hospital Southampton.
Please give what you can, we know there is a cost of living crisis and we are all grateful for whatever you can donate to the charity. For more information please go to their website at HeartburnCancerUK.org.
One final word (because Nicola insists) If you have persistent heartburn, PLEASE see your GP asap.
Thank you!
