I have decided to walk 483 miles on the Camino De Santiago, from St Jean de Pied Port in the foothills of the Pyrenees in France to Santiago in N W Spain, to provide some help and support to my brother David who has been suffering from Parkinson’s disease for over 4 years.

Wikipedia states that The Camino de Santiago was created and established after the discovery of the relics of St James The Great at the beginning of the 9th Century. The Way of St James became a major pilgrimage route of Medieval Christianity from the 10th Century onwards. It leads to the shrine of the apostle St James The Great in the cathedral of Santiago De Compostela in Galicia in North West Spain, where tradition holds that the remains of the apostle are buried.

Pope Alexander VI officially declared the Camino De Santiago to be one of the "3 great pilgrimages of Christendom" along with Jerusalem and Rome in 1492.

As you may know, Parkinson’s is a progressive neurological condition. It causes problems with the brain and gets worse over time.

David confronts his travails with such grace, spirit, courage and good humour.

He is clear that he would like the money raised to go towards finding a cure for the disease. Belief that in the years ahead future generations may not have to endure the debilitating effects of this terrible disease is very important to him. With this in mind I shall be raising funds for the Parkinson’s UK Charity. Their Number one priority is to provide a cure.

In February 2023 My brother wrote "Incidentally, I went for my six monthly check up with my neurologist recently. He told me that 2023 is going to be an exciting year for Parkinson’s sufferers as there are lots of drugs being tested that really will make a difference. Real breakthroughs are within our grasp in the fight against this horrible, degenerative disease."

So your possible donation can really make a difference to finding a cure in the foreseeable future.....

Thank you so much for taking the trouble to read this appeal...
