Story
Team MAD Takes on the Jersey to France Challenge!
My daughter and I, Team MAD, are thrilled to announce our next swim challenge in support of Maggie’s Centre Glasgow.
This July, we'll be tackling the Jersey to France swim, a 14-mile journey across the English Channel. We will start from La Coupe point, a small sandy beach behind St Catherine’s breakwater and finish at Saint-Germain-sur-Ay Plage on the Normandy coast. The famous Jersey tides will likely add some extra distance to our adventure!
We have the prime slot with a weather window from Friday, July 26th to 30th. This means we get to choose the exact day with the most favourable conditions for our swim.
Rachel and I will be tackling this as a 2-person relay, taking turns swimming for one hour each. We'll be sporting the classic swimsuit, hat, and goggles combo, and hoping for some pleasantly warm water (around 17-18 degrees Celsius). We'll have the invaluable support of Gillian, our very own "Beach Babe," who will keep us fuelled and provide support.
We're so excited for this challenge and can't wait to raise awareness and funds for Maggie’s Centre, Glasgow again. Stay tuned for updates on our training journey and how you can support our swim!
Update
We are delighted to say Team MAD completed the Jersey to France swim in 7.5 hours and raised over £12,000 for Maggie's Centre Glasgow on Saturday 27th July. Due to the tide, we swum more than the distance of 14 miles in total of 20 miles! The water temperature was a balmy 18 C and the only wildlife spotted during the swim were jellyfish.
