On the 18th of May I lost my loving, kind and amazing Grandfather, someone whose warmth, humour, and generosity left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

Nanpa had a deep love for sport — whether that was when he was playing as a young boy or watching and cheering from the sidelines, it was something that brought him real joy. One of his greatest pleasures was watching me compete — whether I was swimming, running, or riding my horse, he was always there with a proud smile on his face.That same passion, along with his endlessly positive outlook, continues to inspire me every single day.

In his final weeks, our family was incredibly fortunate to have the support of the Rosemary Foundation, whose compassionate team provided outstanding hospice care at home for him and us. Thanks to them, Nanpa was able to spend his final days in comfort, surrounded by those who loved him most. Their kindness and support extended to our whole family, and we will always be grateful for the comfort they brought us.

To honour my Grandfather’s memory and support the vital work of the Rosemary Foundation, I’m taking on the challenge of training for and completing a Ironman 70.3 in Weymouth this September. This consists of a 1.9km swim, 90km bike,21.1km run. This is completely out of my comfort zone but one that feels meaningful, and something that would make my grandad proud.

I’ll be sharing the highs and lows of my training journey on my socials, and I’d love for you to follow along and show your support.

Raising funds for the Rosemary Foundation means so much to me — not just as a tribute to Nanpa, but as a way of giving back to a service that made such a difference when we needed it most.
