Story
Thank you so much for visiting my fundraising page. I am honoured to be participating in the Royal Parks Half Marathon on 11 October 2026, running to support the British Heart Foundation.
This cause is incredibly close to my heart because without the remarkable progress made in reducing deaths from heart and circulatory diseases my dad wouldn’t be here, alive and healthy today. No amount of miles could ever express my thanks and gratitude for the vital research and treatment available to patients experiencing heart and circulatory diseases, I feel so lucky to have my dad everyday, however I know this isn’t the same story for other families and hundreds of lives are still being lost.
The British Heart Foundation has been a beacon of hope, halving the number of fatalities through groundbreaking research and innovative treatments. But the fight is far from over. We all believe “oh it won’t happen to me”, however my dad was just 60 years old when it happened to him. Dad experienced a life threatening heart attack on 19th December 2022. Dad woke up that morning like any other, he went to work as usual, ate his dinner and went to bed. Nothing unusual, it was just a standard Monday. However dad was woken during the night with severe pains which was later identified as a severe heart attack. With 2 sets of paramedics contributing to dads care on the blue light journey to a specialist cardiac hospital, and immediate emergency surgery upon arrival, we were later told by dad’s surgeon that he was lucky to make it to the operating table alive.
Some would say luck was on our side that night, but there is no luck without the outstanding research and treatments available that did in fact save my dad’s life. Without the incredible paramedics, surgeons, nurses and doctor’s dad would not have survived. After dad recovered and started living a normal life again I always vowed I would do something to raise money for the British Heart Foundation, and now is my time to do so.
I am aiming to raise £1,000 to contribute to life-saving work I have witnessed first hand in the care for my dad. Every pound you give brings us closer to a world where heart disease no longer claims so many lives. Please join me in making a difference—your generosity means everything. I know this challenge will be tough, but it will never be as difficult as what dad experienced that night, he is a survivor and I will remind myself of that each mile I get closer to that finish line! Together, we can run towards a healthier tomorrow. This if for you dad.
