Story
I am again endeavouring to raise funds for Willen Hospice. Willen Hospice support individuals and their families dealing with life limiting conditions.
This September I will be attempting a solo swim of the entire length of Scotland’s beautiful Loch Lomond. I use the word "attempt" here because at 23 miles or 35km long, this will be my longest swim to date, and it would be foolhardy not to!
This is the equivalent of 3.5 back-to-back swim marathons!
This will be an unassisted, continuous swim. Meaning that I will do this without a wetsuit and without touching land or boat, I until I get to the other end.
The loch will be between 13°C and 16°C (55°F - 61°F) and if I’m being honest this is the element I’m most concerned about. Can I outlast the cold and discomfort?
It’s been a lot of prep to train for this. I have completed a 10 hour continuous swim, 20km swims on consecutive days, completed multiple marathons before work and learned how to swim in the dark.
My why for doing this is very simple, every year Willen Hospice supports thousands of people and their loved ones. Only a tiny percentage of their funding comes from the NHS, so our donations mean that they can continue to give people access to the care and dignity they need and deserve at the time they need it the most.
If you are able, please support Willen Hospice by donating, every pound genuinely makes a difference, and your kindness will help me turn this monster of a swim into something that truly matters. Chip in what you can and be part of this challenge with me.
