Story

Two Big Challenges This Spring

This spring, I’m taking on not one, but TWO big challenges to raise money for a place that means so much to me — Charlton Farm.

On Sunday 19th April 2026, I’ll be running my very first marathon in Manchester. Before starting my training, the furthest I had ever run was 21.1km (a half marathon), so taking on the full 42.2km is going to be a huge personal challenge.

Then, just over two weeks later on Friday 8th May 2026, I’ll be joining a group of my amazing colleagues from Charlton Farm to take on *The Fan Dance* in the Brecon Beacons.

The Fan Dance is no ordinary hike — it’s part of the UK Special Forces selection process and involves a gruelling 15-mile (24km) load-bearing march across challenging terrain. It will truly test both my physical and mental strength!

I’m taking on both of these challenges to fundraise for the incredibly special place I’m lucky enough to work at — Charlton Farm, where I work as a nurse.

Charlton Farm is run by Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) and provides care and support for babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions, and their families, across Bristol, Devon and Cornwall.

Through my role, I see first-hand the difference this care makes. At Charlton Farm, we offer hospice stays that give families precious time together — creating memories, finding moments of joy, and getting much-needed respite.

We also provide vital palliative and end-of-life care, and continue to support families through bereavement — something that makes an immeasurable difference during the most difficult times.

As a charity, CHSW relies heavily on donations to continue providing this essential care.

Every donation, no matter how big or small, will help us continue supporting children and families who need it most.

Thank you so much for your support — it truly means everything that I the rest of my team will get to continue to give these children and their family amazing experiences and memories.
