I’ve finally put my big girl pants on and entered the Great South Run in October! Eeek!

Let me be honest, while I enjoy running for the headspace it provides (and obvious fitness benefits), this isn’t something I find easy. After a nasty ankle injury a few years ago, that prevented me getting my foot in a welly for the best part of a year, it’s taken me a while to get the confidence to try and train again. So here goes, a 10 mile run starting from scratch! It’ll be a massive challenge and all for an utterly amazing cause…

I’ll be raising money for the Young People's Shop (previously Chichester Information Shop), a charity that provides vital support for those struggling with mental health and wellbeing. My dad has been working with the charity in a voluntary capacity for several years and the work they do is so vital for young people in our area.

The impact of the pandemic has been felt by everyone, but it has been particularly tough on young people. With schools closed, social isolation, and fewer opportunities to access support, many young people have been left feeling isolated and alone.

The Young People's Shop is there to offer a helping hand. They provide a range of services, including but not limited to counselling, mentoring, and group therapy, all designed to give young people the tools they need to build resilience and overcome the challenges they face. All support is confidential and for anyone aged 11-25 who lives, works, or studies in the Chichester and surrounding areas. People can self-refer to their service directly.

As a mum of two I understand the importance of supporting our young people to lead happy, purposeful and fulfilling lives as adults so any funds raised by my very rubbish (!) attempt at this event will help to ensure that young people in the Chichester area have access to the support they need to thrive.

Any pennies you feel like donating will go a long way. And you can have a good laugh at my expense! Time to don my favourite lycra and get my four legged training partner on board too!...
