I AM RUNNING THE LONDON MARATHON 2026, WAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!
If you had told me a few years back I’d be running the London Marathon one day, I’d have seriously laughed. I could barely run to the end of my estate without being in tears!! I remember being riddled with anxiety, not wanting to go out and run in case someone saw me, feeling embarrassed that I wasn't supposed to be doing it and it wasn’t for me.
Anyway, we were going on our UK family holiday (2023) and found out about a 5k colour run for a local children’s hospice, and I thought, why not? Even though it was totally out of my comfort zone, I knew no one would know me, so I went for it. That run lit a spark inside — from then on, running has literally changed my life.
It’s been a journey, and this will be one of the biggest challenges of my life. I am healthier, stronger, fitter, and more grounded than I've ever been — so why not throw a marathon into the mix?! (HAHA).
I can’t believe it — it still feels so surreal. Those of you who know me will know how much I have wanted this!! A DREAM COME TRUE!!
I was unsuccessful the last two attempts on the ballot, so thought I'd try my luck with a charity. Though I was selective with the charity I chose — it had to be meaningful to me — and finding Caudwell Children resonated with me both personally and professionally. I’ve previously worked for many years in a specialist provision supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), as well as in a more recent role as a support worker — helping children and young people access the community, and supporting adults with autism in assisted living.
Also, having my niece Millie, who is autistic, I have seen firsthand how important the right support and services have been for both Millie and my sister. Caudwell Children provides a lifeline for children and families, doing whatever it takes to help change the future of disabled and autistic children by providing diagnosis, equipment, family services, and support to help them lead a full and active life.
Therefore, supporting Caudwell Children gives me the chance to contribute to their ethos in a meaningful way, knowing that every disabled child deserves a choice, opportunity, and understanding. I’m passionate about making sure every child — no matter their ability or background — has the same opportunity to live a happy and fulfilled life.
While I don’t have a direct connection, I’ve seen the impact disabilities can have on families, and I deeply admire the life-changing support Caudwell Children provides.
Please consider donating — every donation will go directly to Caudwell Children and help reach my goal, as well as sharing. I’ll be sharing updates once my marathon training begins and taking you along on the marathon training, as well as other fundraising plans along the way.
Stay tuned, and thank you so much for reading if you got this far — grateful for the support!!
Jess xx
