Myself, my two big sisters Jen and Katie and my husband Lee have decided to run the Great North Run this year for a cause that is so close to our hearts.

As some of you may know Jennifer and Andrew lost their beautiful daughter Ava to group b strep. This is something that can so easily be avoided with the right education and funding. We would hate for anyone to have to go through the unimaginable heartbreak that can come with the consequences of this infection so we want to raise as much awareness as we possibly can!

Group B Streptococcus is the UK's most common cause of life-threatening infection in newborn babies and of meningitis in babies under age 3 months.

On average in the UK, at least

-two babies a day develop a group B Strep infection

-one baby a week dies from their GBS infection, and

-one baby a week survives with long-term disabilities – physical, mental or both.

Yet most group B Strep infections are preventable. Group B Strep Support informs families & health professionals about group B Strep to save tiny lives.
