Story
3 weeks ago, our daughters life changed over night. After being unwell for the best part of 2 months and us raising concerns twice about her to professionals and showing (unbeknownst to us at the time) the 4 T’s for Diabetes - Thin, Toilet, Thirst, Tired we were turned away and they put her symptoms down to a growth spurt. When we were finally listened to, it was confirmed, she had Type 1 Diabetes. This has been an incredibly difficult few weeks for Evelyn especially but all of us adapting to this new way of living while also trying to teach Evelyn the positives, to be proud and to educate others and that she can live a perfectly normal life, we just have to plan ahead a little more. People think this is just a bit of an injection before meals, this is round the clock care 24/7 balancing the sugars, checking on her during the night, every night, waiting for that dreaded low/high glucose alarm at any given time, waking her to do finger pricks at 2am when she’s fast asleep, training those who look after her to keep her safe. There is so much more to this condition than people realise. I want to raise money and awareness for the little T1D warrior my little girl has become and show her I am so proud of her.
