One of our team members, Mark, was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia in October 2024. After several months of failed chemo, Mark was devastatingly given a terminal prognosis.

Long story short - and one that does not give it the justice it deserves - at the end of January 2025 Mark was put on a life prolonging injection based chemotherapy. However, a few months later, he was offered an experimental cocktail of chemotherapies which could potentially impact Mark's vital organs, would send him 'to hell and back' physically and mentally, but just might get him to a place where he could be the recipient of a stem cell transplant which could lead to a remission.

Almost miraculously - but really, due to the absolute willpower of Mark and his medical team, this worked!!! And so in early September 2025 Mark underwent a stem cell transplant - and in December, the moment we had all been waiting for - Mark was told he was in remission ❤️❤️

Mark's experience and journey is almost unbelievable. Whilst his family, friends and medical team have been a key support, if it wasn't for Anthony Nolan, Mark would not be here.

To celebrate, I’m part of a team running the Cardiff half marathon in Oct 26 - to celebrate Mark and his incredible journey who will also be running - and to raise some money for the wonderful organisation that has allowed us to keep our mate!
