Why I’m running the London Landmarks Half Marathon
This year, I’m taking on the London Landmarks Half Marathon and raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Running 13.1 miles is a big challenge for me, and I’ll admit I’m a little daunted by the distance, but I’m also really looking forward to it, because this run has real meaning behind it.
Last year, on Sunday 6 July, I ran the Cancer Research UK Race for Life (10km) at Mote Park in Maidstone with my friend Lucy. Lucy lost her dad to cancer in 2015. He was an amazing father, husband, grandad and friend, and running one kilometre for every year he’s been missed was both emotional and empowering.
The statistic that stays with me is this: 1 in 2 people will develop some form of cancer during their lifetime. That means almost all of us will be affected, whether it’s ourselves, a family member, a friend, or someone we love.
I’m running this half-marathon for Lucy’s dad, and also for Gina, the wife of a close colleague, who is currently facing a very difficult cancer journey with incredible strength and determination.
Macmillan Cancer Support plays such a vital role because they’re there for people beyond treatment, offering emotional support, specialist nurses, practical advice, and help with the everyday challenges that come with living with cancer. That support can make an enormous difference at a time when people need it most.
If you’re able to donate, no matter how small, you’ll be helping Macmillan continue this vital work and give every step of my run even more purpose.
Thank you so much for your support 💚
It really does mean a lot.
