Story
On my fourth night in hospital after having Emily I met, through those fabulous blue curtains, Carly and her new baby daughter. This is her story:
“5 days after giving birth completely out of the blue I became very poorly. I subsequently spent 8 weeks in a Mother and Baby Unit in Exeter, with an incredible team of Doctors and Nurses focused on getting me better. Now I am feeling like me again, I want to help raise awareness of Postpartum Psychosis with the help of my friends! I’m walking 5 miles a day in May to help fundraise for Action on Postpartum Psychosis to help other mums in need. Some of my friends are going to complete walking challenges too to help the cause! A huge thanks to Kim St Barbe, Ian Fryer, Miranda Overend and Jessica Rowe.”
To help her in her fundraising efforts for APP I am joining her ‘team’ and am aiming to walk and cycle 50 miles in May.
For those of have never heard of it, here’s some information about the charity I’m helping to raise money for:
Action on Postpartum Psychosis (APP) is a UK charity. We’re here to make sure mums, parents and families are supported through postpartum psychosis – a severe, but treatable, form of mental illness that occurs after having a baby and affects 1400 new mums in the UK each year.
We offer information and peer support, facilitate ground breaking research, raise awareness and campaign for improved services.
Our life changing peer support network helps women and families affected by postpartum psychosis feel understood, supported and less isolated.
