Story
This year, me and one of my best friends Ellie, are taking part in the 20 km MS Walk in Manchester to raise awareness and funds for Multiple Sclerosis.
Around 8 years ago my dad was diagnosed with progressive MS. Since then, life has changed in many ways for him. MS can affect things many of us take for granted, like mobility, independence and everyday routines. Watching someone you love face something like this is incredibly difficult and it’s something many people quietly go through.
Despite everything, he continues to do as well as he can and tries to stay positive and for that I couldn’t be more proud.
There still isn’t enough awareness about MS and that’s something I really want to help change.
Multiple Sclerosis is a condition that affects the brain and spinal cord, disrupting how the brain communicates with the rest of the body. In the UK, over 130,000 people live with MS and there is currently no cure.
A diagnosis like this can be incredibly daunting. My hope is that by raising awareness and talking about it more openly, it can make an already difficult journey just a little bit easier for someone else.
I’m supporting the MS Society, who fund research into treatments and a cure, provide support for people living with MS and campaign for better care and access to services.
If sharing this helps even one person understand MS a little better, then it’s worth it.
This one’s for you Dad! 💙
