In memory of Jess Moore

Mark Gilmour is raising money for Wisdom Hospice Charity
In memory of Jess Moore
Wisdom Hospice Charity supports the work of the only adult hospice serving Medway and Swale in Kent. It makes an annual grant to Medway Community Healthcare of £600,000 towards hospice running costs. In addition it provides extra equipment and facilities that fall outside the MCH budget.

Story

For many, Jess’s passing came as a shock. She didn’t want people to worry or for her life to be defined by the cruel disease she faced. Jess wanted to be seen — right until the end — as the vibrant, joyful, and caring woman she had always been. She chose laughter over fear, joy over sorrow, and love over everything.

Two years ago, Jess was diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer — an unimaginable blow that came without warning. But Jess met that diagnosis with extraordinary courage. With the fierce determination she was known for, she told cancer exactly where it could go. Her strength was inspiring, and she never gave up the fight — not for herself, and not for others.

With the encouragement of her incredible friend Hannah, Jess took part in the Breakwater drug trial — a pioneering treatment that aimed to give others with the same diagnosis more time. Even during her hardest days, Jess’s focus remained on helping others. That trial concluded in December 2024, and was approved by NICE England, becoming the standard treatment for bowel cancer patients across the NHS. Because of Jess and people like her, countless others now have more time with the people they love.

In her final weeks, when things became harder, we were supported by the incredible team at the Wisdom Hospice. Their compassion and care gave us precious extra time with Jess — time to talk, to sit quietly, to just be together. They not only cared for Jess, but held all of us through the hardest days of our lives.

We can never thank them enough.

In lieu of flowers, which fade too quickly, we ask you to honour Jess’s memory by making a donation to the Wisdom Hospice. Your support will help other families receive the same care, dignity, and love that we did — and continue Jess’s legacy of kindness and compassion.
