Story
Hi Friends,
For the 3rd time, I’ll be riding 100 miles to raise money for Type 1 (previously known as Juvenile) Diabetes research. While the training is admittedly intense, the day of the event is gratifying knowing that so many friends and family are supporting me and this very important cause. The love and support from our family and friends mean more than words can say.
On October 17th, I’ll be riding 100 miles on the Silver Comet Trail in the Atlanta area to accelerate a cure for my daughter Lindsey - who’s had diabetes for 27 years - and all of the other people living with this insidious disease.
This year I’m raising money for the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation (DRIF) for the first time. DRIF is an impressive organization that is solely focused on cure-based diabetes research. (Lauri and I have supported DRIF for many years and have visited their research facility in Miami.) DRIF has made great strides in bioengineering insulin-producing cells with novel immunology solutions to be resistant to a diabetic’s improperly-functioning immune system - potentially leading to a true cure. This is a very exciting development!
Insulin is NOT a cure and so our family will keep riding, walking, volunteering and doing whatever we can until there is a cure.
Thank you!
Jess
