Story

Thank you for visiting my JustGiving page. I am so happy to be fundraising for The Second Half Foundation , a charity I created after the publication of my book The Second Half of Your Life(Ebury 2011) to bring my philosophy about ageing to life. Our purpose is to create a safe space for older people to come and enjoy doing activities in a dedicated space, make new friends, bridge the digital divide, learn new skills, rediscover old hobbies and find new ones, exercise and feel involved through volunteering, mentoring and teaching. Our Second Half Centre, located in the NHS hospital of St Charles, first opened its doors to the community in October 2012 and now has 5000 members and hosts 80 hours of activities weekly . It embodies what I believe about ageing- we have to age but we do not have to grow old.

The Second Half Foundation is dedicated to providing essential resources and support to individuals who have faced significant challenges in their lives. The Second Half Centre run by Open Age works tirelessly to empower these individuals, helping stay active with a wide range of activities , stay connected to family and friends and have many opportunities for continued learning and skill development.

As creator of The Second Half Art Exhibition: Celebrating Living Older Masters , I believe in the power of creativity to inspire and bring about positive change. Through this exhibition which we have hosted since 2012 , we have an opportunity to showcase the beauty and depth of art , proving that creativity has "" no sell by date". In fact quite the opposite- creativity gets better as we age. This money raised from this exhibition supports the work of The Second Half Centre and the exhibiting artists .

The Second Half Foundation is dedicated to providing essential resources and support to individuals who have face challenges in their lives and want to come to a place where they can meet new people and do everything that they maybe didn’t do in the first half of their lives.
