Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I successfully walked with family and friends from the Ocean Lake at Weybread in Mid Suffolk to the North Sea at Lowestoft to help raise money for Harold Dean Charity (HDC)'s More than a Drop in the Ocean Appeal. HDC need to raise around £420,000 by 31 December 2025 to purchase the Lake which it has leased for the last 50 years and safeguard current and planned uses for the benefit of the local community which I live in. We are now confident that we should meet our initial fundraising target but will continue to actively fundraise at this time to help reduce any amounts that we may need to borrow to reach the above figure. I have been a Trustee of HDC for more than 8 years now and believe that this unique site, the Ocean, should be protected. It is already enjoyed by many hundreds of local anglers and sailors and - if our future plans are successful - the Ocean will be enjoyed by a broader section of the community and play an even greater role in the protection of the amazing range of wildlife that now finds a home here.
We used quieter routes away from busy main roads and included parts of the Angles Way to get us there from one Ocean to another sea. Final routes saw us walking in the region of 23 miles: the longest walk in a single day that I have undertaken so far.
Thanks to Jo Tibbenham and Andrew Catchpole who walked with us on the day for the first 8 miles or so, and thanks as well to Charles Mosse and Nick Tibbenham who provided and crewed our support vehicle. Their support was crucial to our success on the day. Thanks also to everyone who helped to spead the word and who donated in support of this event. Your messages of encouragement made a massive difference to our morale on the day itself.
