Story
Two years ago I was diagnosed with Anorexia Nervosa and AFRID after struggling with eating and anxiety for three years while at university. I used to go through phases of starvation in favour of completing assignments, leading to days of low energy, periods of dizziness and trips to A&E for heart palpitations and chest pain due to a lack of nutrition.
After a year of dedication to recovery therapies and weight restoration, I finally finished treatment in January of this year with the feeling of accomplishment and that my life was mine once again.
In June I’ll be running 24km, participating in the Round Sheffield Run to raise money for Beat - the UK’s eating disorder charity. Right now, at least 1.25 million people in the UK have an eating disorder. With better understanding and faster diagnosis, and proper treatment, recovery is possible.
