Anyone can get Parkinson’s. It gets worse over time and there’s no cure. Yet. Funding research into the most promising treatments, we’re getting closer to a cure. Until then, we're improving life for people with Parkinson’s, and the people in their lives. Together we'll find a cure.

Story

About Me – Why I Keep Going.

Hi, I’m Jim Parker, and I’m taking on a series of endurance challenges to raise funds and awareness for Parkinson’s UK and Parkinson’s UK in Scotland.

For me, this is personal.

I lost my dad after watching him live with Parkinson’s for more than a decade. Seeing someone you love gradually lose their movement and independence, while knowing there is no cure, is something that stays with you. Since then, friends have also been diagnosed with Parkinson’s, bringing home to me just how many people and families are affected by this disease.

I decided I wanted to do something.

So far, that has meant climbing **Mount Kilimanjaro**, running the **London Marathon** and completing the **Edinburgh Marathon**.

Now I’m taking things one step further and preparing for the **William Wallace Ultra Marathon**.

It hasn’t all gone smoothly. I’ve been dealing with a significant adductor injury and, for a while, there was a real possibility that surgery could interrupt my plans. Thankfully, I’ve now been advised that I should be able to make a full recovery without surgery, so the Ultra challenge is ON!

Why keep putting myself through it?

Because people living with Parkinson’s don’t get to choose when to stop.

There is currently **no cure for Parkinson’s**, and thousands of people across Scotland and the rest of the UK are living with the condition today. Behind every diagnosis is also a family learning to live with its consequences.

I want to do whatever small part I can to help change that.

Every mile I run gives me another opportunity to raise awareness, start conversations and raise vital funds for research and support.

My ultimate goal is simple:

**Help raise as much money as possible towards the fight against Parkinson’s and the search for a cure.**

If you can sponsor me, thank you. Whether it's £5, £10, £20 or more, every donation matters.

And if you can't donate, please consider sharing my page. Raising awareness is an important part of this journey too.

Together, hopefully we can help bring forward the day when families hear the words we've all been waiting for:

**“We have a cure for Parkinson’s.”**

Thank you for your support.
