Story

Hi everyone!

This April, I’m taking on the London Marathon for a second time after deferring my ballot place last year. My goal? To beat my previous marathon PB (3:53) and, more importantly, to raise funds for an incredible cause: CLEAR, a Cornwall-based charity that supports children, young people, and adults in healing from the impacts of abuse and emotional trauma.

I’m specifically raising money for Fred’s Fund, a campaign by CLEAR that helps younger children talk about and understand difficult thoughts and feelings. Fred the Ted, CLEAR’s very own trauma support mascot, is on a mission to promote kindness, emotional well-being, and positive relationships. Through Fred’s visits to schools, storytelling sessions, and therapeutic resources, we can reach children early, giving them the tools to express themselves and ask for help when needed.

CLEAR’s work changes lives, and every penny raised will help them continue their vital mission to build safer communities and provide essential therapy.

Find out more about CLEAR here.

Here’s what your donations can fund:

- £5: Play and art therapy materials for children aged 0-5

- £10: A therapy resource pack for a young person

- £60: A counselling session for an adult

- £720: 12 therapy sessions for a child

- £1200: Full therapy support for a child harmed by abuse

With a ballot place, I don’t have to meet a fundraising minimum, but the London Marathon is an amazing platform to raise awareness and make a real impact. If you’re able to spare even a small amount, I’d be so grateful—it’ll inspire me through every tough training session and all 26.2 miles of the race.

Why Fred’s Fund?

Fred’s story, The Adventures of Fred & How He Got His Powers Back, was created by children and young people with lived experience of trauma, in collaboration with The Writers Block. Through his book, school visits, and interactive resources, Fred helps children understand emotions, navigate difficult situations, and build resilience. By supporting Fred’s Fund, you’re helping to keep Fred on the move—reaching more schools, sharing his story, and providing essential support to young children in need.
