If you know me, you know I am not a fan of running AT ALL! However, for a great cause that’s really close to my heart, I am planning to step out of my comfort zone by committing to run 5K DAILY for a whole month.

Plagued by decades of violent conflict and natural disasters, Afghanistan has created one of the largest refugee populations in the world. At least 3.2 million Afghans are displaced within their own country and they are now left to grapple with the harsh realities of life without shelter, food, clean water, or medical assistance.

Political instability, recent earthquakes, an economic crisis, drought, and COVID-19 have collided to create an unprecedented humanitarian emergency. According to UNICEF, 15.8 million children across Afghanistan urgently need humanitarian assistance.

On 7 October 2023, Three 6.3-magnitude earthquakes and several strong aftershocks hit the Herat region in western Afghanistan where 1,000 have been killed and over 10,000 people affected with numbers rising. Over 90% of those reported killed to date are children and women.

More recently, the Pakistani Government ordered the forcible and violent deportation of Afghan refugees. Many of them, who have called Pakistan home for decades, say they have nothing to go back to, while others say they are terrified to be heading back to the Taliban government.

This is literally a life and death situation now so urgent actions are needed.
