Story
Hello there!
It's Jim Fowler here, and on March 15th, I will be running the Hundred Hills 50km to raise money for the Cure Blindness Project.
As the founder and creative director of a film production company, the visual image and my sight is incredibly important to me, yet many people across the globe, especially vulnerable individuals in poorer countries, lose their vision every year.
It is estimated that 43 million people in the world are blind, and 90% of them live in countries where eye care is limited or completely unavailable. What is even more daunting is that in 80% of those cases, blindness can be prevented or treated.
So, I've decided to put my running shoes to good use and support the Cure Blindness Project! They are a global nonprofit organization founded in 1995, and this year marks their 30th anniversary in underprivileged communities in over thirty countries. The project helps people to retain or regain their sight by delivering essential care and access to life-changing surgery. As part of their work, they perform sight restorative surgeries on people with cataract blindness using supply kits with special intraocular lenses.
One surgery kit costs as little as £20 ($25) - a relatively low price that would allow someone to see the wonders of the world around them again. So I am on a mission to raise enough funds to help 10 people regain sight!
If you want to join me on this mission (and no, you don't have to run 50k with me unless you really really want to), please feel free to donate as much or as little as you can, as every pound will make a difference.
Thanks for your support!
