Jo’s fundraiser for The Market Place (Leeds)

Manchester Half Marathon 2024 · 13 October 2024 ·
Lynsey and I met at Leeds University as students and now work together at Leeds Student Medical Practice, and the most common reason people consult us is regarding their mental health. Young people today face unprecedented stress - their issues may be similar to those faced by previous generations, but it is a different world, chiefly due to advances in technology, and social media. They can no longer switch off at home - there is no respite. Availability of information means there is no escape from 'knowing too much', and that's just the tip of the iceberg.
Resources to support young people with their mental health are stretched to the limit. Over the past 10+ years we've been directing patients to The Market Place in Leeds - a drop in centre for young people offering advice and counselling on a range of subjects affecting young people (https://www.themarketplaceleeds.org.uk/). Sadly, in June, they lost their main source of funding, but they are determined to remain open, and they need our help to do so.
We are really keen to support The Market Place to help them continue their amazing work, and we've decided to run the Manchester Half Marathon to raise money for them. Anything you can give - however big or small - will be welcomed.
