Story

So, back in June David and I completed a 10k steps a day challenge and raised £270 - but the Just Giving page closed without me realising and money has been returned to the kind people who donated to it - so I'm going to set up another one and if you were one of those kind people, we would be so grateful if you could donate again! This time it will go directly to Sight Cymru, which is my chosen charity and who I have told I was going to give the money to...

Here's what we wrote when we set it up: David and I are doing 10k Steps A Day in June this year and have just completed day two.

We are hoping to raise money in aid of something which has thrown us a bit of a curve ball this year...

Back in December I was diagnosed with a Central Retinal Vein Occlusion (CRVO) which is a blockage of the CRV and for which there is no cure. It has affected the sight in my left eye which is now more or less useless. I have been off work since it happened as using a computer, even reading something like a menu, is very difficult for me.

While there is no cure, there is treatment aimed at keeping the damage to my eye to a minimum and protecting what sight it still has.

This is made up of regular injections into my eye which are likely to be a permanent part of my life from now on, and a course of laser treatment to my eye - both of which aren't much fun.

We have decided to raise money to go towards research into finding a cure for CRVO and BRVO, which affects branch veins, and to help those who care for sufferers.

This is a condition which not many people have heard of. It affects about 1 in 30,000 people and it is devastating to those of us who have it.

I'll post a link to my fundraising page in due course.

I am trying to get back to work and tomorrow will do my second three hour shift in more than five months as part of my rehabilitation. I'm taking it slowly. Wish me luck!!
